Nature has always been extremely supportive to mankind. It always offers different fruits to us to give us sustainability in extreme climate.
Summer comes with the strong rays of the sun, melodious songs of cuckoos, beautiful fragrance of jasmine and it also brings with it yummy fruits like watermelons, muskmelons and, of course, mangoes.
Mango is the king of all fruits and a powerhouse of nutrients. Both raw and ripe mangoes have tremendous health benefits. In the scorching heat, mangoes are a blessing. They are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron and magnesium.
Dehydration and sunstroke are common health issues during summer. Eating raw mangoes with a pinch of rock salt will quench one’s thirst and replenish the lost water of the body. Eating raw mangoes also cures stomach problems, treats blood disorders and since it is high in vitamin C, it also increases blood elasticity thereby boosting the formation of new blood cells. It reminds me that our elders used to say that, ‘eat mangoes and get completely new blood’.
Mangoes contain ample amount of pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) which is vital for the synthetisation of serotonin and dopamine in the brain which in turn help uplift the mood and regulate social behaviour.
Mangoes also boost hormonal health and promotes dental hygiene. They help in fighting morning sickness for pregnant women and are great for the liver as they are loaded with antioxidants. Mangoes help clean the intestine, fight bacterial infection and build immunity. They help control diabetes, enhance vision, and maintain the cholesterol levels in our body.
So, enjoy the summer by adding mangoes in your regular diet in the form of pickles, salsa, juices, chutneys, curries and rice or simply relish them in their natural form.
