Walnut tree is one of the oldest trees known to mankind. Walnuts came from Persia, in ancient times and the walnut tree was a symbol of intelligence, wisdom and knowledge.
This classy fruit is rich in nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids, healthy fats, vitamins, fibre, and minerals. Walnuts are great nut for the brain health. The omega 3 fatty acids supply EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which help reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Walnuts are packed with tryptophan which helps to increasing serotonin (happy hormone) levels and with this we feel more relaxed, calmer and happier. DHA also prevents age related cognitive decline in adults.
Eating walnut rich meal prevents oxidative damage of bad (LDL) cholesterol. Walnuts are excellent source of antioxidants, which reduces heart disease and lowers the blood pressure as well. Inflammation is the root cause of many diseases including type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer, and cancer. The polyphenols in walnuts can help fight and decrease inflammation. A study also found that eating walnuts resulted in increase in gut bacteria that are beneficial for health. Eating walnuts may even control our appetite and hunger, thus it also help in weight loss.
This tiny, brain shaped dry fruit has abundant benefits. So add it into your regular diet – whether ground in dips, sprinkled in salads and desserts, added to yogurt or smoothie, or pasta or eat it just like that and avail all the benefits.
